Medical Center transition

From three separate teams to one Payroll Services Team

The University and Health System are joining forces to create a consistent and exceptional work experience for every UVA colleague.  Our team provides world-class customer service, timely and accurate employee payments and third-party distributions, and is continually establishing a lean and best-practice environment across the University and Health System.

The Old Service Model

Before the January 7, 2019 launch of Workday, payroll was delivered through three different service models.  In the Medical Center, we had a five-member team, two Kronos members, and a Payroll Manager working in PeopleSoft and Kronos.  After go-live of Workday, PeopleSoft, our legacy system, will house previous years' information (W-2s and payslips, for instance). The Medical Center will continue to use Kronos for time entry.  Terminated Medical Center employees will not be able to access PeopleSoft after leaving employment.

The New Service Model

In the new model, under the Director of Payroll Services, our payroll team joins together in a Payroll Services Community of Expertise.  Our team has three areas of focus:  Time, Reporting and Analytics (Workday and Kronos); Payroll Operations (end-to-end processing, including third-party distributions and reporting); and Payroll Services (tax, accounting, garnishments, and service center).
